A Tidbit On the Industrial Fans

Updated: Sep 23, 2023

Industrial fans are mainly seen in the factories, and these are used for industrial purposes. These fans are required to ventilate the place. These are one of the essential parts of every factory. Ventilation is needed in every factory. Many machines need to be kept on continuously. Thus, a lot of heat is generated, and so the place needs to be cooled down; this is why industrial fans are required.

Industrial fans are quite different from the blowers. You can differentiate them based on two things – the process by which both move the air and the system pressure that they function against.

Specifications of The Fan

The specific ratio of the fans should be at least up to 1.11. The rise of pressure should be of 1136 mmHg.

Categories of Industrial Fans

The Industrial Fans are found in two types. These categories are as follows:

  1. Centrifugal flow

  2. Axial flow

Centrifugal Flow

In this category of the fan, the direction of the flow of the air is changed twice. The first change of direction occurs at the time of entering, and the second change takes place while leaving.

There are four types of fans – radial, forward curved blades, airfoil types, and backward curved blades.

  1. Radial – This type of fan uses a high pressure but has a minimum flow. The efficiency is close to the tube-axial fans. The power of these fans continually increases. This type of fans is best suited for dust and moisture-laden air.

  2. Forward Curved Blades – This uses medium pressure and delivers high flow. The pressure curve is dipped in. The efficiency of these fans is much higher than the axial fans. The power of these fans continually increases. These fans can be easily used in low-pressure HVAC or any other packaged unit. These fans are best suited for clean or dusty air.

  3. Airfoil Types – These have high pressure and promise a high flow. The efficiency of these fans is extremely high. The power of these fans decreases as the flow increases. The current can increase even beyond the point of high energy. These fans are best suited for HVAC and many other industrial usages. This must be used for clean air applications.

  4. Backward Curved Blades – These fans have a high amount of pressure that helps them to deliver a high flow. These have a record of high efficiency. The power of the fan reduces as the flow increases. The current can increase beyond the highest ability. These fans can be used in HVAC and another industrial usage. These can also be used in Forced draft plans.

Axial Flow

In this category of fans, the air enters the fan and leaves the fan without any change in the direction of the wind. There are four types of Axial Fans – Propeller, Tube axial, and vane-axial.

  1. Propeller – The propeller uses low pressure but delivers high flow. The efficiency of this fan is considered below normal. The highest efficiency can be expected only when the fan is close to providing free air. This can be used for air-circulation, ventilation, and exhaust.

  2. Vane-axial – This fan uses high pressure and delivers medium flow. The pressure curve is dip-in. Guide vanes improve efficiency. This can be used in the exhaust, HVAC system, and high strength.

  3. Tube-axial – It uses medium pressure but delivers high flow. This offers high efficiency. It can be used in HVAC, exhaust and drying ovens.

Conclusion

In the mechanism of industrial fans, it generates a pressure that moves the air against the blockage created by the ducts, components, and damper.
