Know the Reality behind Common Car Cleaning Myths

The most basic task of keeping a car-free from the accumulation of debris, dirt, and dust is car cleaning. You might have heard the common proverb, ‘All that glitters is not gold.’ Similarly, the outer shiny body of the car does not mean it is totally clean. The efficacy of a car can be retained after many years when it is maintained well. Just like home requires care to keep it look anew, similarly, the car also requires proper care so that it functions appropriately.

Although it is the basic process, one often gets stuck amidst several misconceptions that might lead to worn out before time being. Some common misconceptions regarding car cleaning are as follows:

  1. Engines do not require cleaning

Just because the engine of the car is not visible, it does not mean that it should not be cleaned. One of the basic components involved in car cleaning is the engine. A regularly cleaned and well-maintained engine reduces the risk of causing fire due to fuel leakage. Engine maintenance should be taken seriously and get rid of the gunk covered engine that makes it inefficient.

  1. Detergents can be used for removing grease

Remember, car dirt is not similar to dirty clothes. You cannot get the same, shiny and showroom like finish in the car while using detergent for washing it. Detergents contain different chemicals that might increase the process of oxidation thereby degrading the lifespan of the engine. Never use detergent for car cleaning as it might remove the protective layer or sealant that protects the body of the vehicle.

  1. Polishing is a better alternative to paint care

One of the common misconceptions about the car cleaning and maintenance is that minor scratches, dullness, and swirls can be removed while simply polishing it. Well, polish contains an abrasive that prepares the surface of the vehicle for waxing. It removes the dirt and paint defects if any. Now it is a concerning point as to how the polish can protect the paint coat of the car.

  1. Washing and detailing are same

For your information, car-washing and detailing are two different aspects differing in cost and features as well. On one hand, car detailing is quite an expensive process which includes the proper examination of the vehicle and corrects the damages done to it. Car washing is associated with exterior cleaning which only removes dirt and debris accumulation.

  1. Cleaning can be done anytime

There is an ideal time to clean cars. In other words, if the body of the vehicle is too hot or you have just driven it or has been left in sunlight, such situations should be avoided. This is because it quickly dries up the soap and water thereby leaving the mark that is harder to clean.

  1. Using any cloth would easily clean the vehicle

We often pick any clothes including old towels, t-shirts for car cleaning. Remember, using any cloth might develop scratches in the course of cleaning which may require further repair. To avoid the degrading finish caused by the towels, invest in cleaning clothes like terry microfiber. These are specially designed to clean the surface of the vehicle.

There are still leftover contaminants after car cleaning. Hence, before preparing for waxing, it is suggested to thoroughly clean the unnecessary dirt else it might degrade the quality of wax and the paint coat as well. Buying a car is not a difficult activity but its maintenance surely is. Ensure proper cleaning while not believing in misconceptions and knowing the facts behind it. Don’t believe in the stories rather consult an expert to get subtle information about car cleaning, washing and detailing of the car.
